This plaza was the scenery of fatal confrontations between the inhabitants of the surroundings (el Arsenal and Barahona Beach). The neighbors of the Getsemaní neighborhood organized their own festivities making public fandangos with music and went through the city. On January fifth, before the the Magic Kings an allegoric car or adorned float appeared in scene with the most beautiful girls or "goddesses"on it.
This feasts slowly disappeared due to the continuous political disputes between liberals from the Plazoleta del Pozo and the conservatives from Chambacú. With the pass of time such festivities were abolished. |
