Calle de la Sierpe

It is said that very often, the dwellers of this street at night heard the noise of something very big dragging itself on the pavement and with rattles like a snake. No one could explain what they heard and didn't have the courage so take a look.

In 1608 the mayor of the city (Don Antonio de Viloria) personally watched over the street one night to finally solve the mystery. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a huge and threatening snake appeared with fluorescent eyes, twisting and noisily agitating the rattles on the tail. The mayor, outlined some magical figures in the air, he had learned at the island of Santo Domingo, and it worked, since the snake became what it really was; a witch. Seeing herself lost she asked for forgiveness but she was imprisoned and in 1614 the Inquisition condemned her.
