It is called this way since 1643 when the Iglesia de la Santísima Trinidad was finished. Some time later when Cartagena was independent from the Spanish crown, the town hall disposed it would be called Plaza de la Libertad in honor of the people who lived in Getsemaní and got together at the plaza and participated in the revolution of November 11th of 1811 that would bring as consequence the signature of the Act of Independence.It is also said that from the vestibule of the church the leaders exhorted the inflamed people. |
